Financial Assistance


The Ottawa County Conservation District administers state cost-share financial assistance to help eligible landowners address natural resource concerns and implement conservation practices.


Funding for state cost-share programs is provided by the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Conservation through appropriation from the State Water Plan Fund.

April 1–30


Requests may be submitted throughout the year, with the annual cost-share application period running April 1–30.

How to Apply for Cost Share

Before You Apply

Projects must receive approval before implementation begins. Funding is limited, projects are evaluated and ranked, and an NRCS site evaluation may be required.

Complete the Request Form

Provide information about the property, natural resource concern, current land use, contractor status, and any other cost-share assistance requested.

Application Review

OCCD will evaluate and rank the proposed project. Approved landowners will sign a contract before beginning the project.

  • What is cost-share financial assistance?

    State cost-share financial assistance helps eligible landowners offset a portion of the cost of implementing approved conservation practices that address natural resource concerns. Funding is provided by the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Conservation through the State Water Plan Fund.

  • Does submitting a request guarantee I will receive cost-share assistance?

    No. Completing the request form does not guarantee financial assistance. Proposed projects are evaluated and ranked based on established criteria.

  • Can I begin my project before my application is approved?

    No. Construction, installation, or implementation that begins before contract approval by the Division of Conservation will make the project ineligible for cost-share financial assistance.

  • Will someone need to visit my property?

    Possibly. NRCS staff may conduct an on-site evaluation of the natural resource concern to help determine the type and eligibility of the proposed project.

  • When will I know if my project has been approved?

    The current OCCD request form states that applicants will be notified by letter after July 13 of the current year.

  • How do I submit my completed cost-share request form?

    Completed forms can be emailed, mailed, or dropped off at the Ottawa County Conservation District office. You’re also welcome to stop by the office to complete a form in person.
